RECREATIONAL GROUPS
Harriers Recreational Classes

We have 5 recreational groups:
Chipmunks, Koalas, Bobcats, Lynx and Puma
The Groups
Our youngest recreational groups are Chipmunk's (Saturday mornings) and Koalas (Tuesday evenings) in these groups we learn the basics of gymnastics.
When gymnasts reach a certain age (or earlier based on ability) gymnasts can then move up to the next age group which is either; Bobcats (Saturday mornings after Chipmunk's) or Lynx (Tuesday evenings after Koalas).
In all four of these recreational classes, we focus on individual gymnastics skills, techniques, achieving badges, learning to dance and use of various gymnastics equipment. The gymnasts are split into separate ability groups within these classes to ensure that they are working alongside other gymnasts of a similar ability. This also ensures that the coaches can adapt the style of coaching and teach a skill slower and break it down or push the gymnasts on & make it a harder skill for the higher ability groups.
Puma is our highest-level recreational group and is by invitation only.
In Puma we move into a focus on acrobatics, progressing individual skills further, higher level badges and compete in the novice category at club development competitions.
Development
Any selections for progressional groups or squads are made by the head coach. It is the responsibility of the recreational coaches to ensure the children are taught at the correct pace & level for them, to ensure they have fun whilst learning and developing their skills, any key milestones are passed onto the head coach.
Harriers Club Competitions and Shows
Our shows and club competitions are a great opportunity for our recreational gymnasts to shine & we try to ensure we show off their best skills. Where possible it is highly recommended that they take part in all the shows and club competitions. If they cannot attend, please let us know as early as possible as last-minute changes make learning routines and planning for competitions difficult for all.
Open Balcony Sessions
We invite parents/carers to view sessions in our regular opening balcony sessions, on these days you will be able to view your child’s training session and you will often get to see badges and awards presented.
Badges
We have our own Harriers Recreational Badge Awards scheme, our badges run from yellow (badge 1) to black (badge 6) we then offer our higher-level awards of bronze, silver and gold. Please see the badge information on our notice board for further details.
Clothing
It is very important that your child arrives at the gym wearing the correct clothes please. A leotard is ideal for girls and if not t-shirt & shorts. For boy’s a t-shirt and shorts (not too baggy).
No zips/denim/hoods/jewellery and hair must be up. It can take up a lot of time at the start of a session taping up earnings and putting up hair so please ensure they arrive ready to train.
Attendance
If your child cannot attend, we request that you message the Harriers phone please to let us know.
